COVID-19 has forced us into a new normal. On good days and bad, ServiceNow continues to live out its purpose and focus on doing what’s right for our customers and the world.

The four emergency response apps were created with great speed and agility in early March, to help its customers and partners manage complex crisis management workflows. Given the need to create new workflows fast, when they were needed most, ServiceNow recognized that many customers and partners would also want to create their COVID-related apps on the Now Platform.

Washington State’s Department of Health, a ServiceNow customer, initially created the Emergency Response Operations app on the Now Platform to manage their response to COVID 19. Working with ServiceNow, the Department of Health is making the app available to all government entities at no charge. In addition to this app, ServiceNow has developed and introduced three, free of charge community apps to benefit all customers.

  1. Emergency Response Operations
Initially created by the Washington State Department of Health, this ServiceNow application helps state and local government agencies to optimize their resources in critical locations during emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic or other events. This application automates the role assignment and resource activation during the incident planning process.

    • Key Features
State and local incident command centers are responsible for requesting, managing, and tracking resources in the event of an emergency. This requires the coordination of divisional and field resources across locations and incidents. This application enables administrators in both the central command center and field offices to coordinate how to assign, schedule, and activate resources down to the employee, activity, and day. It can also be used by other organizations that need to manage response resources.

    This application:

    • Enables Resource Unit Leaders (RESLs) and deputies to develop incident staffing plans
    • Streamlines position assignments by location, dates, and expertise
    • Provides a centralized view of staffing status and schedule (requested, accepted)
    • Allows automatic assignments and shadowing
    • Automates resource activation through emails, eliminating phone calls
    • Supports generally accepted federal standards

The app is one of the ServiceNow Emergency Response Management apps built on the Now Platform® to assist organizations in their emergency response efforts.

  2. Emergency Outreach
This app enables employers to quickly notify employees of important information in the event of an emergency, such as COVID-19. Also provides a simple response interface for employees to self-report their health status to ensure employee safety and anticipate staffing gaps. Graphical dashboards make it easy for employers to monitor status.

    • Key Features
During a crisis, the ServiceNow Emergency Outreach application helps organizations connect with and assess the impact of an emergency event on their employees. Employers can share important information regarding emergency and safety measures. Employers can request a status report from within the message. Communications can take place via email or mobile phone push notifications.

    Workflows include:

    • Send employee notifications via email or push notifications
    • Select target audiences for notifications
    • Customize the notification content and frequency
    • View individual employee status records
    • Access status and response rates in a dashboard

Along with its companion applications, Emergency Outreach helps organization mobilize their emergency response efforts during crises and streamline and automate activities on multiple fronts.

  3. Emergency Self Report
During a crisis, the ServiceNow Emergency Self Report application enables employees to notify their employer of their health status. An application helps the employee safely return to work. It is part of a group of apps built on the Now Platform to assist companies in their emergency response effort
In contrast to email or phone reporting and manual data consolidation, Emergency Self Report provides a digital workflow that captures and automatically rolls up employee reporting data for analysis and action.
    Emergency Self Report
    • Key Features
Along with its companion applications, Emergency Self Report helps organization mobilize their emergency response efforts during COVID-19 or other crises.

This application allows an employee to report their health status to their manager and the response team. Managers can use the app to monitor the status of their teams and reassign the employee’s work assigned to other team members. Employees can notify their managers when they are ready to return to work. The response team can view a roll-up of the reports, sort the data in multiple ways for analysis, and drill down into the details of any report.
  4. Emergency Exposure Management
It enables organizations to identify employees who may have been exposed to infectious diseases, such as the COVID-19 virus, by analyzing an impacted employee’s meetings and locations.
    • Key Features
During a crisis, the ServiceNow Emergency Exposure Management application helps organizations identify employees who may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus or other illnesses. A manager can analyze the affected employee’s location and Office 365 meetings to generate and export a list of potentially exposed employees. An employer can then contact all potentially exposed individuals and take appropriate precautions.

Along with its companion applications, Emergency Exposure Management helps organizations mobilize their emergency response efforts during crises and streamline and automate activities on multiple fronts.
